San Juan Islands

 

The San Juan Islands offer some of the best scenery in the world.  With views of snow caped mountains in the distance it is a sight to be seen.  As you make your way through the islands you will see lighthouses, cliffs, sand beaches, and much more. It is truly majestic.
Along with the beautiful scenery, there is also an abundance of Wildlife to be seen. Orca whales, seals, and Dall’s porpoises are plentiful.  As you look ashore you’ll see island deer, fox, wild turkey and even some Bald Eagles nesting in the trees.

The San Juan Islands offer many fun filled destinations.  Friday Harbor and/or Roche Harbor are not to be missed if you’re looking for a more populated stop with many amenities.  You’ll also want to journey to some of the less inhabited islands such as Sucia and Jones if you’re looking for a more relaxed stay.

Sample Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Anacortes to Sucia Island 16.5 miles – This is a great way to start your vacation. Sail out of Flounders Bay on a 6 mile reach for Portage Island.  Turn north up Hails passage into Georgia Strait and head west to Sucia Island.  You can spend days on Sucia Island State Park offering the most mooring buoys of all the state parks, with great bays all around the island.   There are miles of hiking trails and endless beaches carved out of the sandstone.  This Island is a must see.
  • Day 2 – Sucia Island to Deer Harbor 12 miles – This is a small village in the San Juan’s, Deer harbor on Orcas Island offers a full service marina with store, fuel and , dinning just steps away.  
  • Day 3 – Deer Harbor to Jones Island 3 miles – This is another great State park.  This island offers mooring bouys and a dock.  Great hiking and fishing is found on and around this little island. 
  • Day 4 – Jones Island to Roche Harbor, 8 miles - Originally a Hudson's Bay Company trading post, today Roche Harbor is a scenic resort.   This harbor offers great dinning that is family friendly.  At the end of the day you can watch the  famous sunset flag ceremony.
  • Day 5 Roche Harbor to Spencer spit 13 miles –This state park in the San Juans offers mooring buoys’ on both sides of the spit with good protection in most winds.  Take a long walk on the sandy spit  and enjoy the views.   .
  • Day 6 – Spencers spit to Rosario Resorts, 6 miles - Nestled at the base of Mt. Constitution is Rosario Resort. This restored mansion offers rugged scenery, fine dining and a hot relaxing spa.  This is a great place for the kids or a nice way for the adults to treat themselves after a great week of cruising.
  • Day 7 Rosario Resort to Anacortes, 17 miles – Enjoy a nice cruise back though Obstruction pass and get out into the wind of Rosario strait, go around Lummi Island and enjoy a great down wind sail in to Bellingham Bay.
